A pilot project intended to reduce recidivism among defendants sentenced to prison has finally begun in San Diego. SB 618 Re-entry Program participants are to be provided the tools they need to re-enter society after having served a prison sentence. While SB 618 participants are in prison, they are provided drug rehabilitation, job training and other support they will need to survive outside of prison. District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis' support for the program was discussed in this 2006 San Diego Union Tribune article.
