In a recent Parade magazine article, author Rebecca Webber reports, "From Fresno, Calif., to Hempstead, N.Y., hundreds of communities in the country are using 'restorative justice' to deal with criminals. Offenders must take responsibility for their actions and try to repair the harm they’ve done—by apologizing, returning stolen money, or doing community service, for example." In addition to restoring the community, restorative justice saves money. Apparently, $1 spent on restorative justice saves the criminal justice system $8. While the prosecution of felonies and misdemeanors it important, we as a society must do it wisely and efficiently. For the full text of Ms. Webber's article, click here.
