Facebook Removing Accounts of Prisoners
Faceboook has decided to disable personal profile pages of individuals serving prison sentences. While crime victim groups are happy about the change, prisoner's rights groups have doubts as to whether or not this is a good decision. Social media has become a way for prisoners to not only connect with family, but also inform media about prison conditions. With the recent order to reduce the number of California inmates, there has been a lot of attention drawn to the poor conditions in which inmates live. Facebook intends to disable all accounts of inmates that show current activity, even when the page is being updated by family members.
