June 2011 Professional Tip
When
you have ethical questions about work-related issues, it's best not to
go it alone. Seek the advice and guidance of another to help clarify
your thoughts and sort out the issue. Choose a friend, counselor or
mentor who has your best interests at heart, is experienced and will
keep your discussion confidential.
Needless to say, advice from another is no substitute for your own knowledge regarding your
profession's ethical rules and standards of practice. However,
assuming you are aware of your profession's dos and don'ts,
consulting a trusted confidante will help you see the problem and
solution more clearly.
If
you have already allegedly violated an ethical rule, it is best to
contact an attorney immediately. Call me, Stacie Patterson, to find
out more about how an attorney can help you defend your professional
license and get back to work.
