North County police arrived at the former San Diego Charger's home
late last night in response to a domestic violence call. It is suspected
that the call came from Seau's home and was made by his 25 year old live-in
girlfriend after allegedly assaulting her during an argument. There are
several conflicting reports regarding the charges, ranging from felony domestic
violence, suspicion of domestic violence and felony spousal assault with
injury. What reporters seem to agree on is that police responded to a
call and arrested Junior Seau at his home sometime between 10 P.M. on
Sunday October 17 and 12:00 A.M. on the 18th. He was evidently booked at
the Vista Detention Center around 2:00 A.M., and after posting bail, was
released around 3:30 A.M. The victim suffered superficial injuries that
did not require medical treatment.
Just a few hours after his release, Seau was involved in a car
crash. Police are now investigating the cause of the crash that
involved Seau's Cadillac driving off of a coastal cliff in Carlsbad.
Emergency crews arrived around 8:45 this morning at the site where the SUV was
found about 30 feet below the road. Seau was alone in the car at
the time of the crash. He was conscious when crews arrived and
subsequently treated at a local hospital with minor injuries. A witness
reports that Seau was traveling at "significant speeds" but police
have said that there is no evidence that Seau was suicidal, nor that he
was driving drunk.
Junior Seau got his NFL start in San Diego. He played for
the Chargers from 1990 to 2002. He has since played for the Miami
Dolphins and the New England Patriots.
