Man Sentenced In Chandra Levy Case
Ingmar Guandique was sentenced to 60 years in prison. The man was found guilty last November for the murder of Chandra Levy, the intern who disappeared nearly ten years ago in Washington D.C.
After her disappearance, an affair between, Congressman Gary Condit and Chandra Levy became public knowledge. Initially, he was the main focus of the investigation but police eventually turned their attention to Guandique. Guandique has maintained his innocence throughout the trial and even addressed Levy's family on the day of his sentencing, telling them that he was sorry for their loss but that he had nothing to do with it. Neither is Santha Sonenberg, Guandique's attorney, convinced of her client's guilt or Condit's innocence. She has stated that Condit has acted guilty since Chandra's disappearance.
Soneneberg's arguments in court included the lack of DNA evidence. Even Assistant U.S. Attorney Amanda Haines pointed out that there was neither DNA evidence nor, any eyewitnesses linking Guandique to the murder.
Guandiqe was sentenced on February 11, 2011. His attorneys recently filed for an appeal.
