For the last several months there has been a lot of negative press
surrounding California nurses and their ability to continue working while
awaiting disciplinary decisions. California nurses aren't the only professionals
likely to be affected by the barrage of criticism stemming from these reports.
Consumer advocates stress how much danger the public is in while nurses facing
disciplinary actions are free to continue to work. Meanwhile
the disciplinary cases keep backing up in a state with ever dwindling
resources. The Department of Consumer Affairs seems to be hard at work to
correct the problems going forward. Introducing new ideas to deal with
the backlog, and taking on new cases in a timely manner are just some of the
examples of how the DCA hopes to fix the problem.
The information that has come to light regarding these reports of misconduct
has begun to affect other professional boards as well. The fear
that too many nurses who should have lost their licenses, but didn't, has
raised concern at just how many other professionals should be
investigated. An in depth investigation can be expected to be introduced
very soon, specifically targeting the healing arts boards.
