Most Bizarre Criminal News Stories of 2011

As the year draws to an end, I thought it would be fun to mention some of the wacky stories I've read looking for blog worthy topics. In reverse chronological order, here are my top 12 contenders:

December: The poor teenager arrested and fined about $300 for "planking". He is from Wisconsin and was charged with disorderly conduct.

November: A man and woman arrested on different drug related charges get caught in a sexual encounter, while handcuffed, during transit in police car.

October: Man invites woman to his home at 3:00 A.M. to “get better acquainted”. Man's girlfriend comes home early. Decides his best course of action is to call the police when his new acquaintance shows up and reports her as a burglar. This Colorado man was charged with a misdemeanor of false reporting to authorities.

September: Woman pleads not guilty to stealing $110,000 worth of bull semen. You read that right, more than a hundred grand. She was charged in Ohio with theft and breaking and entering.

August: An Austrian man was fired from his job at a museum for washing his face and hands with urine. Not just once, apparently he made a habit of this for the “cosmetic benefits”. (NOTE: The benefits of urine therapy, as it has come to be known, have not been proven.)

July: A man dressed in a gorilla suit was accosted by a man in a banana suit. Police are chalking this one up to a harmless prank. Neither human, gorilla nor fruit were harmed or charged with a crime in this incident.

June: A Utah man with a hostage continues to update his Facebook profile page during a SWAT team stand-off.

May: Video surveillance camera catches thieves stealing human hair.

April: An elderly couple in Pennsylvania mistakenly receive a 5 pound brick of high quality marijuana in the mail.

March: A burglar, afraid of being shot, hides in the bathroom and calls 911 when the residents come home.

February: A Rhode Island bank-teller, foils robbery when she tells the would-be thief that the bank was closing.

January: A Chicago woman calls 911 in an attempt to force her boyfriend to marry her. She was charged with disorderly conduct.
