Armed robberies at pharmacies are becoming more common throughout the country.  Nearly 1.3 million pills were stolen in 2010, up from about 706,000 in 2006.  Addiction to pain medicine is believed to be one reason that people are resorting to theft.  Some pharmacy chains have installed time-lock security systems to prevent the robberies and pharmacists and technicians are cautious.  Florida and California are the two states with the most instances of armed robberies of pharmacies.
