SB 538 Vetoed by Governor Brown
Senator Curren Price (D-Inglewood) submitted a bill to extend the power of the California Board of Registered Nurses (BRN). Among other things, the bill was written to speed up investigations of complaints against nurses. The bill would have given investigators subpoena powers and access to state criminal records.
Governor Jerry Brown vetoed the bill noting that it "makes no sense fiscally and flies in the face of much needed pension reform." The governor and senator both encouraged lawmakers to pass a revised bill. Senator Price wants to pass the revised bill in a special session or when they return from recess in January.
