Sting Operation Results in Several Arrests
The California Contractors State License Board arrested 135 suspected unlicensed contractors during an undercover sting operation in March. The board, along with local prosecutors, law enforcement agencies, the California Department of Insurance, Department of Toxic Substances Control and the Department of Homeland Security's Immigration and Customs Enforcement worked together on the raid.
Contractors are required to be licensed by the State of California to provide services in the construction trades. The state can refuse to issue or revoke a contractor's license for actions ranging from failure to maintain worker's compensation insurance, unfair pricing, lack of experience and education or failing a background check.
During the "California Blitz" the state charged contractors with infractions that ranged from outstanding warrants to domestic violence to even sex offenses. One individual taken into custody had eight different arrest warrants.
California consumers can verify a contractor's license by visiting the
California Contractors State License Board website or making a quick toll free call.
